Center County adds 7 cases of COVID-19; Pennsylvania reports 1,072 new positives

Center County recorded seven new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, its fewest in a week, according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The new cases bring the county’s total to 35,503 (31,486 confirmed and 4,017 probable) since March 2020. Central County’s seven-day rolling average for new cases is 20.4, up from 19.9 a year ago. a week ago and 7.9 a month ago.

Pennsylvania reported more than 1,000 new cases for the seventh day in a row. The 1,072 new positives bring the statewide total to 2,809,243.

The Commonwealth’s seven-day average is 1,486 compared to 1,268 a week ago and 602 a month ago.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center has three hospitalized COVID-19 patients for fourth straight day, hospital says COVID Inpatient Dashboard. None are in intensive care or on ventilators.

Statewide, 501 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Pennsylvania, three fewer than Sunday, including 69 in intensive care [+5] and 33 on fans [-3].

Death

The DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Center County residents for the 15th day in a row, keeping the total at 348.

With two new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania Death Registry, the statewide total is 44,610.

Community level

Center County remains in “low” community level for COVID-19 for the seventh consecutive week, according to the latest update from the Centers for Disease Control on Friday.

Community levels measure new cases, new hospitalizations and local hospital capacity to determine mitigation guidelines. At the low level, there is no recommendation for interior masking.

Statewide, 63 of 67 counties are at the low tier, with Tioga at the mid tier and Bradford, Sullivan and Susquehanna at the high tier. At the medium level, the CDC recommends masks indoors in public for people at risk of serious illness. At the high level, universal indoor public masking is recommended.

Center County’s two state prisons — Benner and Rockview — have no cases of COVID-19 among inmates or staff, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

In Benner, 1,421 inmates are fully vaccinated, 24 are partially vaccinated, and 208 are unvaccinated. Of the staff, 305 are fully vaccinated [-1] and 324 are not vaccinated [+1].

At Rockview, 1,699 inmates are fully vaccinated, two are partially vaccinated and 83 are unvaccinated. Of the staff, 350 are fully vaccinated and 368 are unvaccinated.

Vaccination

As of Monday morning, 95,341 people in Center County are fully vaccinated, an increase of five since Sunday, and 14,222 are partially covered [+3]. Booster doses were given to 50,496 county residents [+8].

Among the county’s entire population, 70.3% have received at least one dose, 59.8% are fully vaccinated and 51.7% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 75.6% received at least one dose, 63.9% are fully immunized and 54.4% received a booster.

Statewide, 77.8% of adults and 68.3% of the total population are fully immunized.

Vaccination appointments are available via Medical center volunteers, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed on vaccines.gov.

All individuals 12 years and older Is eligible to receive a booster of the COVID-19 vaccine. All people aged 50 and over and certain immunocompromised people are now eligible for a second reminder.
