Joanna Gaines Says ‘Fries and Cheese’ A ‘Revelation’ in Family Heirloom Chili Recipe
Joanna Gaines loves a great one-pot recipe because it’s an easy, economical way to feed her family, including herself, her husband Chip, and their five children Drake, Ella, Emmie, Duke and Crew. This ancestral family recipe from Gaines was passed down to Joanna from a family member, and since then it has been part of her regular rotation of delicious and filling meals.
Joanna Gaines talks about her family chili recipe
In her book Magnolia Table, Gaines explained how she first obtained a copy of the recipe and what she finds “revealing” about the addition of two key ingredients.
âThis is one of the recipes my sister-in-law included in the Gaines family cookbook she gave me when Chip and I got married for the first time. It’s super easy and great for the company, âshe explained.
âThe fries and grated cheese on top are a revelation, so you won’t want to ignore them. If you can’t find Ranch Style brand southwest style beans, use your favorite canned chili beans instead, âGaines said.
The ingredients for this comforting and delicious meal
The ingredients for this comforting and delicious meal couldn’t be more affordable. You may already have them all in your pantry and freezer! These include the following: vegetable oil, onion, and ground beef.
You also need salt, pepper, two cans of sweet diced tomatoes and green peppers, two cans of southwest style beans, fritos and grated cheddar cheese.
Joanna demonstrated how easy it is to make this dish on the second episode of her Quarantine Cooking show, shot by her kids Emmie and Duke, in 2020, when the family spent most of their time together at home.
She admitted that the recipe tastes even better when paired with a piece of homemade cornbread to soak up any liquid left at the bottom of the bowl.
