The club push for Erling Haaland with Kylian Mbappe
Real Madrid CF have already made it known that they plan to go further after acquiring the services of Kylian Mbappe this summer. With Rinaldo and Leo Messi getting long in the tooth, Mbappe is seen by many as the greatest player in the game today. However, Madrid aren’t stopping there, according to ESPN. There are now reports that they plan to make a run for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland this summer as well.
Manchester City are still big favorites to land the Norwegian superstar footballer. But Real Madrid are making progress in undermining that deal.
Part of the problem for Real Madrid is that they aren’t looking for Haaland to ride striker Karim Benzema. Benzema’s contract doesn’t expire until June 2023. So ideally Haaland would stick around for another season in the Bundesliga before making a move. But Haaland’s side have made it clear they want to move this summer.
The number of suitors for Haaland complicates matters. Barcelona have already held talks with Haaland but the current financial situation makes Barca a bit long. PSG will also likely be looking for a superstar to fill the void that will remain when Mbappe leaves for the Bernabeu in Madrid.
One thing that works in Real Madrid’s favor is the existing relationship between club president Florentino Perez and Dortmund leaders. Haaland’s destination should be known in the coming weeks. If Real Madrid somehow achieve this, they could be eyeing another round of Champions League titles.
